| 13. Is there anything else you think we ought
to know about your experiences at the University? |
The dissatisfaction that I have with my experience at UMC
is directly related to the consistently poor quality classroom
instruction, and academic advising provided by Professor
&$%@#$%. I would consider the majority of my experiences
in courses at UMC, other than those involving &$%@#$%, to be
of high quality. The frequent interaction students are
required to have with &$%@#$% is the sole factor that prevents me from
recommending UMC to prospective students seeking this
program/major.

Please choose advisors who CARE and are CAPABLE of
helping: not students. I am well aware some of my advisors
were very busy people, and had to use time management
techniques to minimize the impact individual students have on
their schedules. Hire more teaching staff to spread the
advising load out, at least in IT. Also, never send an E-mail
asking people to check their snail-boxes. If it's that
important use the E-mail to send the whole message, please.
And if you persist in snail-boxes, get locks that take keys.
The combos don't work, and never did, the whole time I
attended. UMC is a very nice school, and I would love to have
my son go here.

The University of Minnesota is so involved in trying to be
an institution with people of many ethinic backgrounds that
they have forgotten about the general Minnesota college
students. The University needs to try and be balanced between
the African American student and the caucasion student. We get
Martin Luther King day off from school but not veterans day or
presidents day. The University must realize that not only the
white man has faught for this country but people of all
ethical backgrounds and we should pay tribute to those men and
women by not being in classes on veterans day or presidents
day. Also the University started out as an agricultural school
and now is vering away from that, which I find very
disappointing.

The only bad experience I have had here is some of the
teachers in the IT field are not very well trained as
teachers. The only other complaint that I have is that we
learn everything on technology that many small businesses
cannot afford, such as we learn Cold Fusion which is expensive
but not ASP which is included with Windows 2000 server. I love
UMC and I have loved my years here. I would not trade them in.
|
The University of Minnesota Crookston doesn't take care of
its own. Not counting the alumni program which isn't
acceptable. After your freshman/sophomore years at college UMC
forgets your here. You don't count, they don't need you. UMC
only focuses on new students that is the #1 reason why almost
0 (zero) students stay from day 1 to day 242. Thank you for
the first few years, sorry you had to treat me like garbage
the last few.

I started college as a junior in high school through
post-secondary education, which is why it took more more than
4 years to finish. Actually, after high school graduation, I
went to college for 4 years, but with the 1.5 years that I
spent in college during high school, the total of year spent
in college came to 5.5 years. I would, and have, recommended
the post-secondary option for any Minnesota resident.

The U of M is an excellent school with a long-standing and
credible history. I would recommend the U of M to anyone who
is strongly considering college after high school. I would
also express the benfits of pursuing a graduate degree at the
U of M.
|
I had a very good experience at the University of
Minnesota Crookston. The only complain that I would have is my
advisor was harder to get into. You needed to talk to her and
was seldom in her office, and then didn't respond back through
email
|
I feel I had a good learning experiance, but my advisor
was not very helpful, nor was she a very good professor. I
feel that she brought the whole &$%@#$% program down
and it really affected the Crookston campus.
|
I am overall very satisfied...really no suggestions to
share!
|
I took all online classes and without that I would not
have been able to get my bachelors degree!!!
|
I was very pleased with my experiences here at the UofM
Crookston, very good teachers and they all know you as a
student (by name, not by a number) that is very important to
get this kind of attention!!! Also the hands on learning here
at Crookston was unreal i was outside for labs all the time i
am very pleased to have come here and will advise others to
attend here as well. Thanks for the great 4 years
|
I had wonderful support and letters of recommendations
from the following teachers for graduate school: &$%@#$%

I have enjoyed my experince at the U of M, Crookston. I
could have had a lot more fun after class if more cash would
have been availabe for intermeral athletics. The intercollegic
athletics ate up most of the time and space in the Facilities,
As a nonathlete I would have benifited more by less school
emphisis on intercollegic and more emphisis on intermeral
activities.

Yes there is somethings I think UMC ought to know. I think
this was the greatest years of my life and I have molded
myself into something I can be proud of. I couldn't have made
it through college without the fraternity life. I want UMC to
know that the fraternity life has made me active in this
school, my grades have stayed stable with the fraternity, and
I have did so much community service because of it. Also, I
have had the opportunity to work with many instructors on
campus and I can see through to a problem here at UMC. This
problem is segragation of departments. The arogance that has
accumalated between the departments does nothing but hurt the
students and clubs and organizations in the end. It shouldn't
be "that ag department over there" or those "dowell hall
instructors over there", this only lags the progress of the
university as a whole and eventually money is the issue
between these departments. This isn't a dog eat dog concept,
it should be a quality eduacation for all and resources for
all departments. I think UMC should also know that the
greatest assets to this campus are Je&$%@#$%, and all the women at the
&$%@#$% because they care so much for the students and they bring
forth common sense, education, and real life situations. These
are the people that are the backbone of this university. I
probably could go on about everything I like and dislike about
the campus, that is why I voiced myself on the CSA, but I must
say that the smaller campus life was nice, the "hands on
experiences" in class were educational, being somebody as a
student left pride, and having the lasting friends and
contacts will always be cherished.
|
I enjoyed my University experience very much. I made
lasting connections with advisors and professors that will
continue to help me with my career in the many years to follow
graduation. Most everyone was very helpful with any questions
or concerns I might have had. I made lasting friendships with
other students on campus through living in campus housing
during my years here. I will always be very thankful to
everyone that has helped me through my educational career. I
am very satisfied with my experience here. I hope others have
experienced and will experience the same satisfaction as I
have here. I wouldn't trade it for anything!
|
Good times and very accessible faculty anytime I had a
concern.

As far as teachers go.... There are three immediate
teachers that deserve alot of credit at this school not only
for how they teach, but how they are there for other
students... &$%@#$% have
made me 100% better off than when I came in here four years
ago... Not only did they have classes where a great deal of
learning has occurred, but I would go into their office any
time of day and they would take the time and answer my
questions.... Honestly, it probably isn't that big of a deal
that they did that, but there is not a whole lot of teachers
on this campus that would have taken that amount of time, and
believe me, it would sometimes be 30-45 minutes out of their
day.... That is what sets these teachers apart from all the
rest of the teachers on this campus, and I have had a ton of
them......So I believe they should get some sort of
recognition for their efforts, because it made all the
difference to this kid........

I really appreciated the interest and support and
availability of my teachers when I had questions or just
wanted to talk to them. I transferred from BSU with many
credits but did not have a major there- did PSEO classes and
finished my AA (liberal ARts) at BSU. I would have liked more
information or role playing on going through interviews and
more information related to my field from the Career
development center. That center seems more business related,
not horticulturally related. I like specific informaiton.
Overall, I enjoyed attending UMC. It was a definate positive
experience for me.
|
The U of M, Crookston is a very good school with a good ag
program. However if the increases continue in tuition as well
as with the budget cuts in the agriculture end of the school
there are not going to be any students to come to the school
for those agricultural areas. This school was developed as an
ag school and is totally going away from that focus now. The
school should either invest money in that area that the school
was started around or not have it as they are starting to make
a laughing stock out of the programs with no school support.

I'm happy that I will be graduating!!!!!!!!

The primary reasons I chose UMC over other colleges was:
1. being able to have my own laptop, 2. small classroom sizes
and hands on experience, 3. the reputation of the horticulture
program here at UMC, and 4. the friendliness and helpfulness
of the entire staff (from instructors to one stop to business
office employees). Things i did not like about my college
experience include: I felt some of the courses required for my
major were mostly agronomy based and did not apply to what i
am going to be doing in my field- regardless of whether i
liked the classes and/or instructors. I didn't like that a
couple of classes were only offered certain semesters and only
had limited number of seats in the class. Not having more
choices for food on campus (lots of other schools have fast
food restaurants on campus- which are sometimes cheaper and
offer a more diverse menu than what is offered at morsels).
The fact that you have to drive to Grand Forks or Fargo to do
any significant shopping (clothes, electronics, etc.) The
weather (which i realize you can't control).
|
Overall I really liked my experiences at UMC. I especially
liked the use of technology. Being visually impaired, the
internet and electronic materials really helped my education.
|
I enjoyed attending school here, and I would recomend
coming here to others.
|
I strongly believe that there should be more career
counseling and help in being place for a job after college, I
have recieved NO help or GUIDANCE what so ever and am strongly
upset and disgruntled about this lack on the part of the
University. Students shouldn't be discriminated against
because they are starting a family while in college. I feel I
was purposely left out on job opportunities because I am
pregnant and instructors overlook me now because I will be
looking for a job for the fall rather than immediately after
college. This should not happen regardless of a persons
choices or circumstances.
|
I think UMC has a super program!! I am very glad I decided
to come here for 2 years. The teachers are excellent. They are
always willing to help and go the extra mile for students.
|
&$%@#$% has been very helpful in helping me attain my
goal from the start to the end...she has been an excellent
advisor.
|
Feeling like a person instead of just a number was
critical to my education at Crookston. I was amazed at how the
instructors and support staff actually knew me by name.
|
I am a distance education student and I really appreciated
the development of Degree Programs online. Taking classes
online takes a lot of dedication and focus on the students
part, much more than the classroom. Those classes online
helped me complete my education in a very timely manner. Thank
you
