UMC is unique among universities in that the small class size and interactions with professors allow for distinct advantages in learning. You are not just a number at UMC, on the contrary, you are an individual.
By becoming active in clubs and organizations here at UMC your resume builds itself. Each club on campus is required to do at least two service projects per semester. These projects are done throughout the Crookston and surrounding communities. This interaction with the community on a service level is also very rewarding and can afford you a different view your role or "niche" in the world today.
The UMC Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society is a very unique club here at UMC. We participate in many different service projects, and also have many other activities that we participate in. These activities include: Black Bear Den trips (see the video)(46 Mb), Teaching in Fertile, MN at the Norman County Environmental Education Day, Duck Banding at Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge, Cleaning Wood duck boxes at Rydell National Wildlife Refuge, Netting Walleye Fingerlings at Rydell National Wildlife Refuge, Building and Placing Blue bird houses throughout the Crookston area, Inviting various speakers to present at meeting, and much much more. With all of this, why wouldn't you want to be a part of the UMC SCTWS?
Other and just being an excellent resume builder, being active in clubs and school events introduces you to many new people, many of which you will be working with for your four years here and also in the workplace after college. AND IT'S FUN!
Everyone wants to be remembered for something, and everyone wants to make a difference. UMC is the perfect place to begin or continue making your mark. There are plenty of opportunities for you to do this!
