A lack in the number of majors such as history or other traditional majors
A lot of the instructors don't really care to help you out if you need it and some of them really look down their nose at a person who isn't doing as good as the rest.
BECAUSE
I don't really like the area the school is located. I like other areas geographically.
i don't want to go to college again
I have a different outlook on my future now than I did when I started college.
I like the academics and the athletic experience, but the cost of coming here being Canadian and with the exchange makes it expensive. It is nothing to do with the education or experience of the school, just logistics and costs ...
I like the school just fine, there just isn't a whole lot that the town has to offer that interests me.
I might have decided to persue a different major. But I really don't know.
I never got a chance to visit the school before attending because of the flood. I would have been helpfull to talk to the teacher before attending. The school really din't prepare me for what I wanted to learn but was a great learning experience.
i wasn't really impressed with the xxxxxxxx teachers. one is a scatter brain, and the other one thinks he is god.
I wasn't sure what I wanted to do until two years ago.
I would be interested in attending a school that offers a broader base of Management Degree programs. The school I attended previously allowed me to major in Human Resource and Minor in Economics, here at UMC I was only able to choose a Management or Marketing degree.
I would have chosen a school that had a hotel or restaurant the HRI students run in order to practice the skills they learn.
I would like to find a school with more hands on things.
It is a good school but it is too close to my home.
Lots of pros and cons, here smaller classes, more degrees else where.
Not impressed with instruction, closed minded with small town attitude. Even though school is part of the University of Minnesota, the staff is not nearly that of the Twin Cities campus. The school brags about technology and yet is in no way competition to the University of North Dakota. To high of an acceptance rate. To low of overall G.P.A.'s
not sure due to money situations
the xxxxxxx program is somewhat failing... i have to transfer to xxxxxxxx to finish up that degree. but i was satisfied with the business management program.
They only reason I attended UMC because I live in the area. To attend another school I would have to rent out or sell my house to move.
UMC, in my opinion is a good place for my degree program (Early Childhood), yet I question some of the other areas (xxxxxx, etc.)

Because of the computers...makes a big difference.
Because the campus is only one on Minnesota that has Ag. Classes.
Classes are small and they incorporate technology into most every class.
COMPUTERS, THE PEOPLE, THE OVER-ALL CAMPUS
For the most part, I really like the people here. I've had my share of problems with some of the faculty, but nothing so bad that I wouldn't want to come back. It has been a postive place for me, for the most part.
Good experience in the An Sci dept. As students we get awesome opportunity to do hands on and practical application. The small school atmosphere and the lifetime friends are great.
Good Learning experience.
Great programs with Computers
I didn't feel there were enough qualified instructors to teach the classes we were expected to take in our major. There also could have been more hands on classes it would have been nice to be able to physically see some of the equipment we would be using in the computer field specifically the insides of a computer not many students get to see what it's like to remove a harddrive and reinstall it. Overall however, I think the education was a good one.
I enjoy my program in HRI and the technology has been great, I have learned many programs that are used in the industry today. I also like the small class sizes and the fact that all of the instructor know who you are
I enjoyed the small classes and how heplful most instructors were
I felt I was given access to a lot of hands-on technology but I'm not sure this will still be true in the future.
I found the enviroment helpful.. There has always been a teacher there to help and tutors available. I grew up in Minneapolis and I found in school you were just a number...
I have really enjoyed the fact that the instructors care a great deal about me as a student and as an individual. I also like the fact that if I wanted to, I could know everyone on campus, or so it seemed.
I like the atmosphere, the small class size and the friendliness of the people
I like the fact that it's a small school and that interaction with the teachers are more personal.
I like the small atmosphere and the teacher/student relationship.
I like the way our advisors help out when asked, but I had a lot of trouble with my advisor in particular with having a too busy schedule for her students!!
I liked the class sizes, i liked the teacher student relationships, they are all good teachers
I liked the smaller class sizes, and the one on one relation with the teachers. I also enjoyed the wide variety of clubs therr are.
I loved the hands on experiences and the one on one, personal relationships that were built with students, faculty, and staff.
I really enjoy the small college atmosphere and especially the farm feel, balanced by a very technical side. UMC is just a nice comfortable place to learn and the faculty and staff are very helpful and considerate of the students.
I really liked my experience here at UMC, but some of my teachers that retired were replaced with people who were not as qualified.
I really love the use of the laptop computers..Plus I think my degree is OK. I would change a few things as far as the classes but other wise I am satisfied with my experience at the UMC.
I started my freshman year at BSU and liked it there a lot, but coming from a small high school I was impressed with UMC with the teacher, student relationship. I was very impressed with the way teachers are concerned about us.
I think that the technology aspect is key, the chance to utilize this kind of technology on a daily basis is invaluable.
I think this is a great school to enroll at. The only thing that I really didn't like was that +- grades thing. Other than that I really have enjoyed spending my four years at Crookston.
I've enjoyed attending UMC. The most rewarding aspect of attending UMC is the people that I've met and the personal growth I've experienced.
It provides the techonogly that is needed in todays job market. UMC is more advance then some of the other schools.
It's a good school with good instructors. Class size is small and you get good computer experience.
Just because I've been very fortunate to be successful in both Academics and Athletics. I've met a lot of nice people and made friends that will last a lifetime.
like the small school atmosphere, country lifestyle and more personal attention by teachers.
My advisor and the professors in my field have been terrific.
My attitude has changed since I attended UMC. I have become a better student, maybe because I am a little older.

The Experiences that have had here, both good and bad, are something that I will never forget or want to trade for anything.
The hands on experience is what I like the most. Most of the labs I have been in, take outside to do actual hands on experience.
The one one one experience in the class room with teachers and classmates is a great advantage, also the lab tops have been a great help in my time spent here and UMC and companies that are hiring reconize that and think that it is impressive.
The small campus offers the ability to interact with many different students as well as faculty. There are many opportunities in the clubs on campus as well as a great Crookston community.
The teachers are wonderful to work with and I like the atmosphere that the entire staff and faculty allow us to participate in. One other reason is the computers and the technology experience that I have gotten.
The technology and the possibilies available to me.
This is a good campus, and I plan to come back for another degree.
UMC has a very freindly atmoshere that makes you feel so welcomed. You are in classes that are not bigger than 30 students and you can really get to them and the instructor. All of the faculty and staff are helpful and friendly.
UMC has the program I am in. I also wanted to get my Bachelor's Degree and I can't get it at the community college I attended in the Cities.
UMC is close to home, and the classes are generally great learning experiences. UMC had a lot less students when I started, but is now getting bigger every year. The parking leaves much to be desired, and it is getting very expensive.
Very happy with the University.

PART SEVEN. COMMENTS AND DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
54. Please enter any comments about your experiences at UMC.

A few teachers need to be heavily evaluated for teaching ability in the ag department. Their concern for students is there but they know to much to be teaching, cant get it accros to students. More Mech ag needs to be taught at UMC, it is a very important part of an Agriculture career, I have learned from personal experience. It is a shame that the shop is being cut in half, there almost isn't enough room now with two bays.
All in all I think that the Equine program here at UMC is great for those student starting out in the horse feild. There were many changes around the barn in the short time I was here. I think my graduating year has been the best learning experience here at UMC. Thanks!
As an INM major, I feel thatUMC has not been helpful at all in helping me find a job after graduation. This is very frusterating as I have spent 4 years of my time and money here. I feel the least UMC could do is be more dedicated into helping me find a job that suits my needs and preferences.
Computers where such a help, and a learning experince that is 10 to 1
Don't allow the college to believe they can teach everything via computer. We must preserve the ability for hands-on training in all aspects of our college education.
Enjoyed it very much.
Enjoyed the experience of going back to a school that gave me a chance to have everyday use with a computer.
From being part of Student Forum, the one thing that I feel is lacking at UMC is a higher level of communication between administrators and students. There were issues that Forum attempted to deal with, but they didn't receive effective help from administration. There tended to be a lot of run around. This is an area that needs to be worked on to have better student/administration relations.
good school overall, enjoyed much more than my years at xxxxxxxx state….
I came to UMC as a transfer student, for the most part UMC has been very supportive of my education and the environment is conducive to learning. I enjoyed my time here and would recommend it for any student looking for a SMALL college that still has the high school atmosphere.
I feel that is is important for the xxxxxxx office personnel to be friendly and willing to help students. They have not been willing to help and thus many students are disatisfied with the xxxxxxx Office's services. Students feel this way.
I feel the library could have more resources on hand, instead of sending away for them. In the evening hours, services on campus decline. For instance, the library and help desk have work study who are under trained and often times are unable to answer questions, help find info, etc. I feel that we pay for our laptop computers and therefore, should be offered more "help" in operating them at the helpdesk. xxxx and xxxxxxx do a great job and during the day it is easy to get help. But, many college students prefer to do their work in the evenings and finding assistance is a problem. I also feel the library should have more weekend hours and later week night hours. The teamwork approach and technology aspect of the education here is outstanding! As I continue to go through the job search process, I am learning that employers do indeed prefer an employee with a teamwork approach and an extensive background in technology (no matter what career field). The staff on campus is very friendly and I feel at home at UMC. The smaller class size is very helpful also!
I feel UMC has a strong family atmosphere. I have never met so many caring people… UMC will be a part of my life forever. About the INM Program… I wish there were more classes on networks and how to manage them effectively. I feel that the classroom training should also include a mandatory lab. I have noticed classes having to supplement some lecture time to accomodate lab time. Also, I wished the INM Lab was open more hours, so students can spend more time praticing the materials taught in class. The INM Professional Group was a big part of my succe!ss in understanding networks and how to be an administrator. Overall, UMC was a great experience for me.
I felt I recieved a very adaquete education at UMC. But for the fact that my advisor was a great help is definetly defeating. She had a hard time teaching the material she knew, even though she was very educated. I feel she needs help with teaching skills and be acceptable to change in the xxxxxxx area. She seemed to use material that was outdated.
I found having the computers to be a great help, and I can now go into the workforce and be able to work with a computer with no problems.
I had fun here, and liked the environment that I learned in. Could use more oppertunities for meat animals students
I have change a great deal from the experiences I have had here, and it has all been for the good. I am really going to miss being here and going to miss all the good times I had while attending UMC.
I liked it here and enjoyed my 2 years here. I wish that I would have gone here my first 2 years also.

I see too many occasions where the biases of an instructor are a deciding factor in whether or not a person gets a scholarship award. I have seen a number of times when an instructor has to try to instill in the students their own personal beliefs and values. This makes me feel as if I was constantly lectured. Other than that, I feel that my time at UMC was very beneficial to my future.
I think that some professors in some areas of the xxxxxxx division have some bias toward students that don't come into college with a lot of leadership skills or are somewhat introverted. They seem to just write them off.
I would suggest anyone to attend UMC!
I've just had a great four years at UMC!!! I think that the University is doing things that are going to be beneficial in future years.
It is a pain if you have your own computer and have to pay $960 a year. I think something could be done with that. Plus the reason why fees are expensive is because the hepldesk can't figure a way to minimize it. I suggested to them to set up a dummy default printer. If you were to go to the helpdesk and look at all the wasted paper and TONER I think you would understand where I'm coming from!!!!
IT WAS ALRIGHT.
It would have been nice to not worry about printers being out of paper. We are constantly having to run to other dorms for paper. And I personally can't stand how "twitchy" Novell is.

My experiences at UMC were very benefical and will never be forgetten. It was a lot of fun to come to school here.

overall I have had a great experience at UMC. I have no complaints to anything. I extremely enjoyed the job opportunities in my major field. The faculty really stressed importance on these openings.
OVERALL I WOULD RECOMEND GOING HERE FOR OTHER STUDENTS. IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE IN THE FACT THAT I DID NOT WANT TO ATTEND COLLEGE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience at UMC. I met and made a lot of friends that I hope to keep throughout my life, and I have learned invaluable skills here. There is always the exception to the rule, and there are some things that I didn't enjoy.

Some serious attention needs to be paid to the off-campus students and their ability to gain access to the internet…the current system is severely lacking (especially between the hours of 4pm-1am!). The Library is in need of updating…there is not enough access for students to the net, and the current system used to check out books is not in keeping with the Universities philosophy of being a technological leader.
The computer is a great tool, except when teachers forget to give us assingments in class. They think just becuse we have computers we check our e-mail every day. Well some people might but some people don't. Teachers automatically make you responsible for anything they send over e-mail. What a crock these assinments (unless stated they are being sendt over e-mail durring class) should be give durring class. It is works that way in the class I am in right now!, the teacher loves to send us e-mail the night before a class and tell us we are having a quiz on what he/ or she send over the e-mail. Again I say what a crock, if that teacher says in class here is an assingment and that a quiz is to follow the next class period that is fine. When I get a telephone call in the middle of the night from my friend saying did you study for the quiz that a teacher sent over e-mail that I know nothing about, I become very irriatble.
The only thing that I didn't like about the laptops is that whenever I wanted to get on from home at night, I usually couldn't get on because all the lines were busy. If you're going to have people pay for the service each Quarter, you should make sure that they can get on anytime they need to.
The ThinkPad is the only reason I came and stayed at UMC.
This was the best choice for me. I have loved every minute and feel I have gotten a strong education that will allow me to fulfill all my goals in life.
UMC is a good school. I am glad that I started here then came back to finish with a degree here.
